Description
Tour historic Baehr Observatory and view the many wonders of the spring night sky. Ages: 6 years and older with an adult. You will start the hike at the Star View trailhead at Pine Valley Ranch Park. Park in the upper most parking lot and you will see the trailhead to the north of the upper parking lot. A naturalist should be there to greet you. If you arrive late, the program will be at the observatory at the top of Star View trail. Star View trail is a 1/3 mile moderate to strenuous unpaved trail up to the observatory. Please note: You must be able to walk this distance on your own. The observatory is not ADA accessible. This program is not recommended for those with mobility issues due to the nature of the hike. Please check our program listing for other astronomy programs held at better accessible parks. This is a late night outdoor program. Dress warmly and in layers, cold weather clothing is a must. It will be cold and the observatory is not heated. Wear sturdy hiking boots/walking shoes. Please bring a flashlight and/or redlight headlamp to light your way. Water bottles are always recommended. There are no restrooms available at the observatory. Restrooms are located at the lower parking lot (a little over a mile hike from the observatory). Please leave pets at home. Let's play and learn outside! Our programs go rain, snow, or shine! So, dress accordingly. Cloudy skies may not be a reason for us to cancel. Our astronomy programs often have other activities besides telescope viewing and weather conditions can change quickly in Colorado! We will cancel the program if the weather is hazardous or unsafe. If a program is canceled we will send an e-mail and/or call each registered participant. You can also check the event listing. We usually make the call to cancel within 24 hours of the program. Registration for this program is available online at http://bit.ly/SpringNightSky one month before the date of the program. If you are registering during this time, but space is no longer available, please call Lookout Mountain Nature Center at 720-497-7600 to be placed on a waiting list.
