Mt.Evans Observatory Trip
Description
Mt.Evans Observatory Trip
Thursday, August 5, 2010, 10:00 am
Meet at Mt Evans
The Telescope atop Mt. Evans Observatory operated by the Denver University, Department of Physics and Astronomy will be available for us to look through thanks to DU's professor Stencel. Yes, this is a daytime visit to the observatory in conjunction with Evergreen Audubon; we are to meet on Mount Evans at 10 am. Views of the Moon, Jupiter, and Saturn are planned.
An unusual dual-aperture 28.5-inch, f/21 Ritchey-Chretien telescope has been installed in the University of Denver extreme high altitude observatory facility, atop 14,268 ft. Mount Evans in Colorado. The telescope control system has been designed to allow initial operation from an insulated control room. Long- term plans call for totally remote operation from the University of Denver campus via direct microwave radio link. Until late 2000, this was the highest observatory on earth. For more information check http://www.evergreenaudubon.org/?p=1391. To register, please phone Karel Buckley at 303-670-8859.
