Description
The Evergreen Chamber Orchestra, in cooperation with area schools, will hold its annual Mountain Area Orchestra Festival on Saturday, January 31 at Evergreen High School. The Orchestra and students will rehearse on Saturday afternoon and present a free concert at 7:00 p.m. The soloist this year is 17-year-old cellist Morgan Downey, a Senior at Colorado Academy and student of James Todd. Miss Downey has been playing the cello for 12 years, and will perform the first movement of Lalo's Cello Concerto with members of the Orchestra. The Orchestra will also perform Apache by Carlos Nunez and Soda Creek Hoedown by Frank J. Halferty, with students from Bergen Valley, Wilmot, Marshdale, West Jefferson, Elk Creek and Parmalee Elementary Schools. Evergreen Middle School and High School strings with ECO will perform a movement from Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 and Susan Day's Whirligig. Evergreen High School winds and percussion will join the group for Gliere's Russian Sailors' Dance, Del Borgo's Shaker Variants, and an arrangement of the Finale from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. This collaboration is designed to inspire the students by having them perform next to professional level musicians.
