Description
Welfare, or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, in this time of austerity
Income disparity between rich and poor is growing faster in Colorado than in most other states, ranking 8th out of 50. The number of Colorado children living in poverty is 17.5 percent, more than one in six. What is the welfare system, now known as TANF or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, doing about it? Are we giving funds to legal immigrants? Are welfare benefits still limited to five years? The nonpartisan Jefferson County League of Women Voters will examine Human Services in Jefferson County at its meetings this month including one for the Evergreen-Conifer area, which are open everyone, regardless of party affiliation.
