Description
Join National Park experts online from the Homestead National Historic Park to learn how the Homestead Act of 1862, drew millions to the United States and forever changed the land long-inhabited by indigenous cultures. You'll also learn how to research the origins of your property or that of your ancestors. This presentation will be hosted online. The Homestead Act of 1862 built our nation, with 270 million acres homesteaded by men, women, immigrants and formerly enslaved people. The land, long inhabited by indigenous cultures, changed forever. National Park representatives will share the history of the Act, how land was claimed and who settled in our great nation. We'll also share maps of homesteads in our area and teach you how to research the origins your property or find out if your ancestors were homesteaders.
