Description
The Center for the Arts Evergreen is proud to present our bi-annual craft exhibition, Exquisite Objects: The Fine Art of Craft, which has been a tradition for almost 5 years. Twenty-five artists are featured in this juried exhibition, which includes clay, glass, metal, fiber, wood, mixed media, and jewelry. The opening reception is on January 29th 5-8pm and the exhibit will run through March 5th.
Before the Renaissance, craft fell under the general category of liberal arts, which included painting, music, astronomy, grammar, and arithmetic, among others. They were considered utilitarian in purpose. It wasn?t until the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries that a distinction was made, and ever since, there has been much debate over the inclusion of craft in the field of fine art and high culture. Although fine craft can still be functional, in many instances, it evolves into non-functional objects using the same methods. The product is a well designed and constructed object with the same esthetic quality of fine art.
As part of this exhibition CAE will present two Brown Bag Lunch Lectures, which are free to the public. Join us Wednesday, February 3rd 12-1pm to hear from the jurors and Wednesday, March 3rd 12-1pm to hear from some of the artists featured in the exhibit.
