Saturday, June 19, 2010
8 - 11 am
Leader: Heather Johnson (303) 670-0101
Have you been hearing and watching birds, wanting to learn more about how to identify them- If so, Join Evergreen Audubon members, Heather Johnson and Else VanErp, for a morning beginners bird trip. Trip leaders will share tips on how to identify birds by both sight and sound, including how to use a variety of popular bird field guides; tips on finding birds quickly through binoculars and spotting scopes; as well as recommended next steps to increase your birding experiences.
The field trip will meet at Lair of the Bear Jefferson County Open Space Park at 8:00 a.m. on June 19, 2010. The trip will end at 11:00 a.m. It is a trip geared for adults. However, mature young adults are welcome to join the trip as well. The trip will involve an easy hike through the Park, not exceeding 3 miles. The terrain is relatively flat, with a few short hills, however hiking boots are recommended. Plan on bringing a back pack with water, a light snack, sun screen, a baseball cap, and a jacket (depending on the weather).
If you have binoculars and a bird field guide, plan on bringing both on the field trip. No prior birding experience is needed. There will be extra binoculars and field guides for you to borrow for the trip. A bird checklist will be provided.
The maximum number of participants is 14. Registering for the field trip is required, so please sign up early to ensure your spot on the field trip. To register for the trip, contact Field Trip Leader, Heather Johnson, at 303-670-0101 or 303-594-8780 (cell).
