Come join the Friends of Dinosaur Ridge on Saturday September 12, 2015 from 10AM to 2PM for a free event with hands-on activities including gold panning, fossil sifting, and dinosaur track painting at the Visitor Center! Sluice mining and geode cracking will be available for a fee. Geologists and visiting experts will staff booths about earthquakes and faulting, volcanic eruptions and volcanic ash, landslides and rockfalls, radiation, radon, floods, swelling soils, wildfires, and other hazards. West Metro will participate. Experts will offer expertise on preparedness as part of FEMA?s National Preparedness Month. Geocaching Colorado will be teaching geocaching ? the Ridge has a number of geocaches and earthcaches for practicing. On the trail, guides will explain the geology and fossils along Dinosaur Ridge. Biking or hiking the trail is free or take the shuttle for $4/per person, 3 & under ride free. Dinosaur Ridge is located just west of the C-470 exit at Alameda Parkway.
