Youth Leadership Jefferson County (YLJC) is an innovative program offered by the Jefferson County Business Education Alliance that develops the leadership potential of 10th, 11th and 12th-grade high school students in Jefferson County. Students get a chance to interact with community leaders and institutions, broaden their perspective on community issues, explore career options, and learn how to work with teams, when to take charge as a leader, and how to be a productive follower. Each full-day monthly session focuses on an aspect of the community including government, business, health services, and public service.
* Tuition of $250 Includes lunches and materials
Students must provide their own transportation to the sites of each class in Jefferson County.
YLJC was created in 1998. It is modeled after the highly successful adult Leadership Jefferson County program now in its 30th year. In previous years, YLJC was a program coordinated by The West Chamber Foundation. Today it is operated by the Jefferson County Business Education Alliance, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) based in Golden, Colorado. The committee for Youth Leadership Jefferson County is chaired by Dot Miller. Committee members include community leaders Pam Bales, Sharon Usher, and Marna Messer.
