You begin with an ancient vessel called; "Lagenaria," (a hard-shelled gourd), then add on pine needles and waxed linen using the 9000 year old technique of coiling. Hence the name "Gourdsket'" part-gourd, part-basket! The Whirlwind is an ancient basket design based on the legend that whirling winds were a result of ceremonies linking the material and spiritual realms. Think you aren't creative? Think again. No experience is necessary to awaken your creative spirit by learning the ancient art form of coiled basketry and how to apply it on to a hard shelled gourd. This enchanted art form only asks you to come with the desire to play with natural fibers and learn!
