The inaugural reading will feature Grand Junction's John Nizalowski, whose newest title, The Last Matinée, was released earlier this summer, and Kittredge poet, Padma Thornlyre, whose new book, Mavka: a poem in 50 parts, was just released in a limited, signed and numbered edition of 100 copies.
Padma Thornlye
A single father living in Kittredge, Padma Thornlyre waits tables for a living at Creekside Cellars in Evergreen. He has conducted workshops on Poetry as Sacred Utterance, and in 2011 read aloud the entire 90-page text of the prose poem, Askitiki (The Saviors of God), at the tomb of its author, Nikos Kazantzakis, in Iraklion, Kriti. He has presented his own poetry on the terrace of the celebrated Atlantis Books, in Oia, Santorini, and at The Perch, in Brooklyn. Padma's past books and chapbooks include Eating Totem; Sometimes, Grace Goes Cukoo (with his daughter, Circe); Colfax, Colorado; Angel Flesh; and My Guru, My Midwife. Padma occasionally edits the little magazine, NK.
John Nizalowsk
Born and raised in upstate New York, John Nizalowski received a B.A. and an M.A. in English from Binghamton University and the University of Delaware, respectively. He has taught at Virginia Tech and for the College of Santa Fe program at the Penitentiary of New Mexico, and has written for various journals, most notably The Santa Fe New Mexican and Telluride Magazine. His literary and scholarly works have appeared in numerous publications, including Puerto del Sol, Blue Mesa Review, Weber Studies, Blueline, ISLE, Chiron Review, and Under the Sun. Currently, he teaches writing and mythology at Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colorado, where he lives with his wife Brenda Wilhelm and his daughters Ursula and Isadora. The Last Matinée is his second book.
