a. reason for an action or condition: motive. “Boogie at the Ranch, a community dance party; live music, dancing, wine & beer for purchase, food trucks, auction and guaranteed good time.”

b. something that brings about an effect or a result. “To raise funds for a permanent stage at Buchanan Park for EPRD, Evergreen Park & Recreation District.” Benefitting the Buchanan Park Pavillion, Active4All Foundation.
