Victoor, the Harmony HorseWorks ?spokeshorse,? will headline the world?s first equine art exhibit to be hosted by a horse and featuring him IN art by famous artists of the ages! Opening night at the Center for the Arts Evergreen in Evergreen, Colorado is May 28, 2010 from 5 to 8 PM and the show runs through the end of June 2010. Additional exhibition sites are planned at the Buchanan Recreation Center and Center Stage, both in Evergreen. Vic is featured in 20 large-format paintings that pay homage to Pablo Picasso, Mark Rothko, Paul Cezanne, Michelangelon Merisi da Caravaggio, Rene Magritte, Jackson Pollock, Gustav Klimt, Christo, Edgar Degas, Fritz Scholder, John Nieto, Dan Namingha, Marc Chagall, Franz Marc, Theodore Gericault, George Stubbs and Henri Matisse.
Vic will meet and greet the art-loving public and be ready to eat apples and carrots. ?Horses have very definite opinions about art,? Vic explains. Harmony HorseWorks is an equine sanctuary in the Colorado Front Range mountains where Vic and his 8 herdmates live, train, educate, instruct and loaf. He is the world?s first equine art critic to go public in such a big way. To date, his human, Barbara Wright, an equine artist and founder of the sanctuary, has completed 14 of the 20 scheduled canvases.
?I?ve seen many horses in paintings lounging in pastures or mounted by their riders but I?ve never seen a horse actually doing anything productive in or with art. I wanted to correct the misunderstanding that all horses do is lounge in the sun and carry people around. I chose art for my message because I know that painting is such a powerful agent of change,? says Vic. ?I come from the Arabian horse show circuit and was purchased by my human at a livestock auction for $825 after owning a $35,000 price tag, so I know what it means to go from riches to rags in an instant,? he adds. ?I could trot around and tell my story and make people feel sorry for me, but I wanted to contribute more than that. What better way to inform people of the plight of today?s unwanted horses than through non-invasive education using beautiful, startling and funny images? Lucky for me, my human artist agrees.?
