SUMMARY:Dinosaur Discovery Days - Earth and Sky
DESCRIPTION:An open house will celebrate earth resources\, earth history\, and International Astronomy Day.  At the visitor center geologists and paleontologists will present hands-on activities including fossil\, mineral and rock ID\, fossil sieving\, fossil scribing\, fossil digging\, gold panning\, metal detecting\, sluice mining\, map reading\, and analyzing groundwater.  More scientists will speak at the world-famous track site and bone site and at 10 other sites on the Dinosaur Ridge Trail. Astronomy activities will include solar observing\, searching for iron meteorites\, an interactive sundial\, an enormous model solar system\, and a Colorado K-T boundary layer clay specimen.   Special guests include Mr. Bones\, the Jurassic ParkTM  jeep\, the Space Foundation\, Brighton Astronomy Group\, National Park Service\, Lookout Mountain Nature Center\, USGS\, Butterfly Pavilion and many others. Admission and hiking the trail are free. Offsite parking is $5.  An optional shuttle bus costs $4 with ages 3 & under free.  Activities are designed for Cub Scouts and Webelos to earn astronomy and geology awards and for the Boy Scouts to earn the Geology Merit Badge.
