An all-call exhibition featuring small works for every budget.

March 28 – April 27, 2024

Just as great oaks can grow from small acorns, so too can great art collections begin with small works. That’s the thought behind Center for the Arts Evergreen’s new exhibition, 12 x 12 x 12: Small Works, a sizeable collection of scaled-down 2D and 3D works from 90 different artists, hailing from nearby mountain towns to as far off as Idaho, Montana and Alaska. From the standbys of oil, watercolor and bronze, to contemporary constructions of encaustic wax, mosaic, and assemblage, there is something for every taste and, importantly, budget to be discovered.

Grades 1-3:  Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-11 am beginning September 26th to December 21, 2023 and resume February 6th through April 25, 2024.  Maximum number of students is 6.
 

Students will choose a particular phenomenon of interest which covers many of the requirements of the Colorado Academic Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards, which includes using mathematical concepts.

• We'll start with Physical Science, discovering the unique properties of solids and liquids, and understand common properties, forms, and changes in matter and energy. 

• Then, we'll explore Life Science how offspring of different animals have characteristics that are similar to but not exactly like their parents’ and how an organism is a living thing that has physical characteristics to help it survive

• Lastly, we'll look at Earth Systems and how Earth’s materials can be compared and classified based on their properties, as well as discover the processes and interactions of Earth's systems and the structure and dynamics of Earth and other objects in space

Grades 4-5:  Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 am -12:30 pm beginning September 26th to December 21, 2023 and resume February 6th through April 25, 2024.  Maximum number of students is 10.

• Physical Science:  Matter, atoms, density, waves (sound, electromagnetic, seismic)

• Life Science:  Environments, habitats, populations, survival, ecosystems, human activities which are impacting these ecosystems, genes and traits

• Earth Systems Science:  Volcanoes, weather, solar system, seasons, Moon phases

Includes a pretest to determine baseline with specific strategies to maximize scores, test-taking strategies that statistically work, English grammar/common misconceptions, Reading Science/Social Studies text strategies that work, Math (no calculator) test strategies and content practice drills, Math (calculator) test strategies and content practice drills, post test to see growth and areas where students can study concepts for understanding outside of class.

• Renewable and nonrenewable resources. 

• The interaction of Earth's surface with water, air, gravity, and biological activity which cause physical and chemical changes 

• Natural hazards and their national and global impacts such as volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, and thunderstorms.
  
   

  Spring 2024 will cover Life Science standards:  

• Cycle of matter and energy in  ecosystem

• Populations interactions with abiotic factors in an ecosystem 

• Biomolecules produced by organisms / Cellular metabolism

• Photosynthesis and cellular respiration

• Passive and active transport of substances across membranes in cells.

• Cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems

• Heritable genes which encode for the production of proteins 

• Evolution and the heritable characteristics of populations

A Little History about The Prom-

The Prom is based on a real situation that unfolded in Fulton, Mississippi, in 2010, wherein the district was sued by the ACLU for violating student First Amendment Rights (the community's contingent of bigoted parents held their own private prom to protest the decision). It is not a tale of tragedy, nor is it a tale of gay pain. The Prom is humorous, while also centering queerness and the complexities of being queer in a world that can–and is–hostile to those who are within that community.

The play opened in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2016 and enjoyed a stretch on Broadway in 2018. It began a national traveling show just before the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2019, then continued its tour in 2021. A film adaptation of the show was produced by Ryan Murphy and landed on Netflix in 2020, and YA author Saundra Mitchell joined playwriters Bob Martin, Chad Beguelin, and Matthew Sklar to publish a book for teens based on the play, also called The Prom.

Join us for this hands-on cheesemaking class.  You will learn how to make mozzarella and its delicious cousin, burrata.  Two professional cheese mongers will share their years of expertise and experience in a fun, interactive setting.  You will learn basic cheesemaking knowledge, as well as a brief history of this cheese and how to make it from fresh milk in the centuries-old, traditional Italian way.  You will have an opportunity to taste the whey, curd, and finished cheese used in the demonstration.  Each participant will hand-stretch a ball of mozzarella and a burrata to take home. We will share recipes and the knowledge to make these amazing cheeses in your own kitchen.  Learn the proper way to make these milky fresh cheeses that we all love.

This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to get in the pool and practice the swim skills your kids are learning, in our continued effort to get the whole family safer in open water. Freaky Fridays also include an extended family Rivertime!
?Parents are not required to get in the pool, though it is recommended to get full experience. You do not have to be a client to attend.}
 

Includes a pretest to determine baseline with specific strategies to maximize scores, test-taking strategies that statistically work, English grammar/common misconceptions, Reading Science/Social Studies text strategies that work, Math (no calculator) test strategies and content practice drills, Math (calculator) test strategies and content practice drills, post test to see growth and areas where students can study concepts for understanding outside of class.

Office Hours available after classes for students to get more individual attention.

Grades 1-3:  Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-11 am beginning September 26th to December 21, 2023 and resume February 6th through April 25, 2024.  Maximum number of students is 6.
 

Students will choose a particular phenomenon of interest which covers many of the requirements of the Colorado Academic Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards, which includes using mathematical concepts.

• We'll start with Physical Science, discovering the unique properties of solids and liquids, and understand common properties, forms, and changes in matter and energy. 

• Then, we'll explore Life Science how offspring of different animals have characteristics that are similar to but not exactly like their parents’ and how an organism is a living thing that has physical characteristics to help it survive

• Lastly, we'll look at Earth Systems and how Earth’s materials can be compared and classified based on their properties, as well as discover the processes and interactions of Earth's systems and the structure and dynamics of Earth and other objects in space

Grades 4-5:  Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 am -12:30 pm beginning September 26th to December 21, 2023 and resume February 6th through April 25, 2024.  Maximum number of students is 10.

For the middle school standards, we'll choose one topic from each of the three sciences, or pick one of these sciences and dive deeply into its specifics.  We will use or develop a phenomenon-based study using student questions to drive our investigations, which includes using mathematical concepts.

• Physical Science:  Matter, atoms, density, waves (sound, electromagnetic, seismic)

• Life Science:  Environments, habitats, populations, survival, ecosystems, human activities which are impacting these ecosystems, genes and traits

• Earth Systems Science:  Volcanoes, weather, solar system, seasons, Moon phases

Fall 2023 will cover Earth Science standards:  

• History of the universe, solar system and Earth.  

• Gravity, solar phenomena, electromagnetic radiation, and impact events that influence the planet’s geosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere 

• The theory of plate tectonics and geological, physical, and geographical features of Earth. 

• Climate and energy transfer among the atmosphere, hydrosphere, geosphere, and biosphere. 

• Renewable and nonrenewable resources. 

• The interaction of Earth's surface with water, air, gravity, and biological activity which cause physical and chemical changes 

• Natural hazards and their national and global impacts such as volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, and thunderstorms.
  
   

  Spring 2024 will cover Life Science standards:  

• Cycle of matter and energy in  ecosystem

• Populations interactions with abiotic factors in an ecosystem 

• Biomolecules produced by organisms / Cellular metabolism

• Photosynthesis and cellular respiration

• Passive and active transport of substances across membranes in cells.

• Cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems

• Heritable genes which encode for the production of proteins 

• Evolution and the heritable characteristics of populations

? THE COPPER CHILDREN ? The Copper Children are a unique blend of styles and influences that span from the choral sounds of American gospel music to the psychedelic acid jam-fueled sounds of the 60s. They take you into your heart space, conjuring the spirit of unity, freedom, silliness, and love with harmonies and rhythms that remind us of our shared humanity. The Copper Children have shared the stage with notable artists such as Jerry Garcia Band, The Flobots, Devotchka, Mike Love, Everyone Orchestra, Elephant Revival, Dustbowl Revival, Handmade Moments, and many more. Over the years, the band has performed for audiences at Summer Camp, Northwest String Summit, Arise Music Festival, and on national tours of the U.S. Like a roller coaster, their “Psychedelic Gospel” experience leaves audiences feeling transported to the rail yards of freedom.

The Copper Children is driven by rhythm and good vibration. Each member came together to spread the love of the purest form as far as possible. Formed in July of 2015, the Copper Children released their first album as a group in June of 2016 called “What We Are”. It is centered around the bonding of the members and their sharing in the blessing that was the life of Caleb Jarosh, Elijah’s brother, to whom the album is dedicated with love. It is the foundation of the band’s journey into their own sound.
